England and New Zealand secured victories in their final matches before the start of the World Cup on Thursday.

England looked in good form as they, the defending ICC Men's Cricket World Cup champions, secured a four-wicket victory (DLS method) over Bangladesh in their last warm-up match for this year's tournament in Guwahati on Monday.

It marked the final preparation for England ahead of their World Cup opener against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on Thursday, and the reigning champions received contributions from several players in the rain-interrupted clash with the Asian side.

Tall fast bowler Reece Topley (3/23) impressed, as did David Willey (2/26) and Adil Rashid (2/27), restricting Bangladesh to 188/9 from their 37 overs. It was clear that this total wouldn't be sufficient against England's deep batting lineup.

Jonny Bairstow (34 from 21 deliveries) and skipper Jos Buttler (30 off 15 balls) played aggressively, while experienced duo Moeen Ali (56) and Joe Root (26*) ensured a strong finish to the innings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (74) performed well for Bangladesh, and Mustafizur Rahman (2/23) took two wickets with the ball, but England's all-round effort with both bat and ball proved too strong.

England will return to action in the World Cup opener against New Zealand on Thursday, while Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in Dharamsala on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Thiruvananthapuram, New Zealand secured a seven-run victory (DLS method) over South Africa in another rain-affected match.

New Zealand posted a respectable total of 321 runs from their allocated 50 overs, with Devon Conway scoring an outstanding 78 runs before retiring hurt.

Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, contributed 37 runs before retiring as well. Williamson's ability to control the innings was crucial in establishing a solid foundation for his team.

Tom Latham added 52 runs, and Glenn Philips displayed aggressive intent with a useful knock of 43.

Mitchell added 25 quick runs towards the end, taking the team's total beyond 300.

Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen led South Africa's bowling attack effectively, taking three wickets each. Their disciplined bowling kept the Kiwi batters under pressure throughout the match.

In response to New Zealand's challenging target, Quinton de Kock, South Africa's opening batsman, showed tremendous skill and determination, remaining unbeaten with an impressive 84 runs when rain interrupted play.

Rassie van der Dussen contributed significantly with 51 runs, forming a vital partnership with de Kock.

Henrich Klassen added to the support with his solid 39 runs, showcasing the strength of South Africa's batting order.

With the ball, Trent Boult shone for New Zealand, consistently maintaining the right line and length to claim two wickets in his five-over spell. His ability to swing the ball both ways troubled the South African batters.

Unfortunately, rain forced the match authorities to halt play with de Kock and David Miller at the crease.
